MTV Launches MTVMusic.com

It only took 30 years or whatever for MTV to get back to actually presenting music videos. It’s been about a month since MTV fully acquired Flux / Social Project. MTV’s involvement with Flux has been quiet and inneffective over the past year or so. Perhaps owning the full package will lead to some nice social channels? Or perhaps I just want to embed one of the worst videos of all time (by one of my all-time favorite bands) below. Via MTVmusic.com.

ATF: Obama Assassination Plot Disrupted

msnbc and ap report the atf disrupted a plot to assassinate barack obama

According to breaking news from the AP, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms ATF disrupted a plot to murder Barack Obama and more than 100 other blacks.

WASHINGTON — The ATF says it has broken up a plot to assassinate Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama and shoot or decapitate 102 black people in a Tennessee murder spree. In court records unsealed Monday, agents said they disrupted plans to rob a gun store and target an unnamed by predominantly African-American high school by two neo-Nazi skinheads.

How many such “plots” might be out there? How many copycats may be inspired by such reports and how many will be frightened? At least two other Obama death threats have been publicized in recent months. Personally, this makes me feel ill.

Sarah Palin Effigy Hanging in West Hollywood

This is in very bad taste. If you are not a fan of Sarah Palin, I recommend ignoring her existence entirely. Not only is this lame attempt at a joke in poor taste — and not only in light of reported Obama effigies (most recently at a Christian university in Oregon — but acknowledging Palin in such an extreme way (or any way) only gives her more credibility / recognition. As it is there will be no shortage of Sarah Palin drag queens at this week’s Halloween Parade. Ugh… From tonight’s CBS2 news:

“I know if we had done it with Barack Obama, people would’ve probably
thrown things through our windows,” [creator of the display Chad Michael] Morrisette said. “The image of a hanged black man is a lot more intense than the image of a hanged white woman — for our country — in the history of our country.”
[…]

“It should be seen as art and it should be seen within the month of October. It is Halloween. It’s time to be scary. It’s time to be spooky,”
Morrisette said.

CBS/KCAL is the only network to report on this, even though it was pointed out as early as Thursday by WeHo News. The display is on this house at the corner of Fountain Avenue at Orange Grove.

What Happened to Ping.fm?

UPDATE: Ping.fm’s Sean McCullough posted in GetSatisfaction that the problem is indeed a mess-up by — wait for it — GoDaddy. The Ping bots are still at work behind the scenes for users with bookmarklets, etc.

The ever-popular multi-microblog posting site Ping.fm is currently showing up as a GoDaddy spam page (see screenshot). I presume this is a temporary mistake as I’ve seen nothing indicating otherwise and I know the Ping.fm guys to be responsible Web 2.0ers who wouldn’t accidentally let their domain name lapse… what could it be? Am I just up too late and spying a late-night migration?

is ping.fm down?
