9:00 a.m. The president receives Presidential Daily Briefing.

10:30 a.m. The president tours the Edison Electric Vehicle Technical
Center Garage of the Future. Edison Electric Vehicle Technical Center, Pomona.
Out of Town Travel Pool

10:45 a.m. The president delivers remarks. Edison Electric Vehicle
Technical Center.

12:05 p.m. The president departs Edison Electric Vehicle Technical
Center.

1:10 p.m. The president holds town hall at Miguel Contreras Learning
Center, Los Angeles.

3:10 p.m. The president departs Miguel Contreras Learning Center.

4:20 p.m. The president tapes an interview on “The Tonight Show with
Jay Leno,‘ Burbank.

5:50 p.m. The president departs Long Beach en route Andrews Air Force
Base. Long Beach Airport.

Modest Mouse at the Palladium, 2/24/09

The latest iteration of Modest Mouse rocked the mid-sized (4,000 capacity) Hollywood Palladium last week leaving most fans — young, old, industry, walk-ins — satisfied. But for those waiting to hear the opening notes of the band’s radio (and video game) hits “Float On,” “Ocean Breathes Salty,” and “Dashboard,” it was an incomplete night.

But “fuck ’em,” as frontman Isaac Brock, would say. For those of us who’ve watched the PNW indie rockers grow from a bunch of drunk ne’er-do-wells to Indie 103.1 and MTV darlings, the show was an encouraging glimpse into the future of an ever-evolving band rediscovering itself in the post-radio, post-MTV era.

…And This is Why I Live In Los Angeles

It only feels about 104 degrees warmer in Los Angeles than in Chicago when you factor in the wind chill. Yes I feel like an asshole pointing this out but at least I’m not being as blunt about it as my buddy Adam Rose, who posted a sun-drenched photo essay titled, “28 Things to do in Los Angeles in the Dead of Winter” this afternoon.

So to all of you back in the Chi, once you spend a “winter” in Los Angeles, you’ll never understand how or why many people withstand the endless bitter chill by choice. I always say there are 3 seasons here and 3 in chicago. LA has no winter, only a loooong fall. Chicago’s winter tends to skip spring.

I feel for you all — I remember what it’s like. but I am boiling right now in my office with the A/C on and the fan on high with the setting sun beating on my face. Apparently we topped out at 86 today, but hey — I’ve been in the office all day. You know those 75 and sunny with no humidity days that are so rare in Chicago? Yeah, that happens about 300 days a year here.
