The LA Fire Department and Web 2.0

My interview with LAFD Public Service Officer Brian Humphrey is live at LAist. Thanks, Brian for taking the time to geek out with me for a bit re: the LAFD’s cutting edge experiments and efforts in making full use of ubiquitous Internet connectivity to provide the ultimate in public service.

Read the interview here.

Also, congrats to Assignment Zero for having its first series of crowdsourced articles (on crowdsourcing) published in Wired.

I don’t know whether or not my interview with Newsvine CEO Mike Davidson will make it into Wired, but either way, it was a great experience writing and editing for the project and I look forward to collaborating again in the future!

Expo Line Project

Thanks to input on our forums, we’ve decided to change the title and URL of our Expo Line project. Alas, the original naming was the result of 30 seconds of name-shouting and URL-entering with little consideration of our intentions as a one-time project with a potentially endless lifespan on the Web. To learn more and discuss Los Angeles’ planned Exposition Line light rail from downtown to the sea, have a look.

Videos of MacArthur Park Mayday Police Violence

A couple truly outstanding videos came out of the unexpected police action during the May 1 Immigration Rights Rally at MacArthur Park on Wilshire and Alvarado Streets in LA, Tuesday. So, good, and important to see, that I’m compelled to offer them below.

The first video puts you right in the action, a great piece of live journalism by GameJew, aka Jonathan Mann.

Unbelievable to see cops chasing people like this.

The second video was shot by Sasha Constanza-Chock (his written account of the experience is here. The disturbing footage begins at about 2:00.
