Below is just a sampling of the events I’d like to hit today. Day-shows that might be missed can be caught in the night or perhaps tomorrow. Not listed is the Spaceland/Echo party at Antone’s or the Schuba’s party at Yard Dog Art Gallery, which I’d like to stop by in hope of running into some Chicago peeps. Hoping to find a place with good wifi access so I can get some work done and ALSO stream live video/audio from one of these day parties. Check back here for some live-streaming fun.
VIDEO: Cornelius Rocks Out Disney Hall
This video is not the greatest — from my backup camera still digital — but figured I should share so you can get an idea of the energy of Cornelius’ energy and the incredible synced animation on the huge screens in the background. More on the show + details of my brief interview with the band later at LAist.

LA Times Creates Google Map for California Fire Storm ’07
Updated links to media/official/citizen coverage of the fires below.
I’ve messed with numerous mapping applications — namely Mapbuilder and Platial and none are as effective, easy to maintain / update and share as this map tracking the ongoing fires in Southern California. Nice one, Times.

For more fire coverage: CBS2/KCAL9 has multiple live video feeds available here, ABC7 is live here. KNX 1070 is doing a commendable job, covering this story like the natural catastrophe that it is playing out to be and knowing, ala Katrina, that while many may lose power and/or have to leave their homes, they still could have access to radio. Several KNX reporters have been on the story for over 24 hours straight now, and they’ve been broadcasting commercial-free since the story broke early Sunday. Listen in here.
SignOnSanDiego is also in breaking coverage mode via their text-only Fire Blog updates. With up to a quarter million people already being evacuated from areas of San Diego County it’s possible Qualcomm Stadium could be very reminiscent of the Superdome staging area (except of course that it’s not covered and the weather ain’t nearly that bad, save for the smoke in the air).
Also, LA City Fire Department is now live with its long-incubating real-time alerts feed. Subscribe via e-mail or Twitter. For very regular updates from San Diego to your mobile device, follow Nate Ritter.
Below, The Daily news‘ less-detailed Google Map focusing on Los Angeles and the Valley and a real-time slideshow of the more incredible photos documenting the fires via flickr:

Sufjan Stevens, the Wiltern, Los Angeles
Here’s a taste of the sweet sounding Sufjan Stevens concert last night at the Wiltern in Los Angeles. I knew I’d be blown away, having previously missed Sufjan several times both here and in Chicago — but, wow — the band, er, orchestra was incredibly tight and on it — a new song — Majesty Snowbird (Tad posted it here) — was monumental. The guy is just a disgustingly brilliant talent and wonderful musician.
Jump below to hear the set-closing “The Tallest Man With the Broadest Shoulders” and listen to the audience clap along in 11/7, 6/8, 5/4 and whatever time signatures as the 15-piece orchestra fills in the holes with wings a-flutter.
YouTube has a ton of Sufjan video, especially from the Town Hall shows at the bottom of September/early Oct. Below is a great quality video of this new “Majesty Snowbird” phenomenon.
