ABC Democratic Debate NOT Airing Live on the West Coast

Clinton Obama Pennsylvania Debate to be Streamed Live? Yes or no ABC

ABC News, what is the matter with you?

ABC News, the National Constitution Center and WPVI-TV will host a Democratic Presidential Candidate debate in Philadelphia on Wednesday, April 16th. The live 90-minute debate, moderated by ABC News anchors Charles Gibson and George Stephanopoulos, will air from 8-10 PM ET/PT on the ABC Television Network. — U.S. State Dept. Web site

This is such an ignorant, irresponsible, and backwards move on behalf of ABC, it’s beyond belief.

This would be a perfect opportunity for Disney-owned ABC News Networks to promote their streaming video services. I am crossing my fingers that the debate WILL be live-streaming via local Philadelphia affiliate WPVI. As it stands right now, WPVI has a “breaking alert” that they will live-stream President Bush talking about Climate Change in about 30 minutes.

Don’t even get me started about how ridiculous this concept is: Bush addressing climate change with THE POPE at his side? Hilarious!

Philly Inquirer previews tonight’s debate. This as Jersey boy Bruce Springsteen endorsed Obama on his website.

Clinton Concession Looming?

There were several points in tonight’s debate in which Hillary Clinton seemed — rhetorically, at least — to be getting near the end of her game campaign-wise. Undoubtedly running out of steam — her campaign initially figured on securing the nomination after February 5 — she had very little going her way tonight. For every time she slammed Bush policies, she used them to back up her own, not to mention her complicity in shaping many failed Bush policies (Obama joined the Senate in January 2005, well after Congress allowed BushCo to open up the trap doors to Quagmire-ville).

I thought she was gonna cry again toward the end as she waxed sentimental in a way reminiscent of her pre-New Hampshire speech. But it was a strong closing in that she sounded warm and almost likeable even as she shifts her speech from saying “I will” to “I would …. as president.”

But in my opinion Clinton shot herself in the foot with the poorly-timed and horribly-received “change you can Xerox” line. CNN and AP immediately seized on this line, with AP calling it an accusation of “political plagiarism.”

In a typical two-faced HRC maneuver, however, she followed the Xerox line by arguing “If you look at the YouTube of these videos, it does raise questions.” (No really, look at the YouTube below….) I actually admired the iconoclastic paradigm presented by Clinton’s careless phrasing and felt a bit of jealousy (of Obama’s gift for rally gab) in her tone.

It’s not officially over until after Texas and Ohio in a couple weeks at the very least. But is she subconsciously conceding the race? Is it, for all intents and purposes, over?

Many people on all sides think so.

Kucinich: Short Man Out

dennis kucinich and wife no las vegas msnbcSeems unfair and silly to see NBC and the Nevada Supreme Court shut Dennis Kucinich out of tonight’s debate in Las Vegas, in a last-minute appeal, no less.

Kucinich always has good things to say and is a refreshing voice with (in many cases) a healthy, progressive perspective. But as the trend has been — super-hot wife or not — dude is too short.

Perhaps this is another reason why you need Perot- or Bloomberg-like billions to get the media establishment accept you as a third-party candidate.

If you’re like me and don’t have cable — click here to watch a live stream (no ads even) of MSNBC’s debate online, moderated by Brian Williams. So far, pretty interesting.
