Seems like years since the announcement of OpenSocial, but finally invites went out today for Google FriendConnect and as you can see at left, I’m testing it out. Biggest complaint is that it can’t be constrained to <200px (I confine all sidebar elements to 160px or less, which is why the FriendConnect badge is a bit cut-off).
Either way, let's be friends, dammit! Below are the other widgets available. (Actually, they won't render even with my inline.js WP plugin – so check out the widgets here). Play away!
Homer Simpson Tries to Vote; Google Mashes the Vote
Not finding this too funny. Perhaps it will be on November 5th.
Google did a nice blog post today and mashed up some voter registration [mobiletools as well. Project Vote Smart developed a comprehensive API to access information for your own election/vote related mashup can be had And if you’re a sucker for celebrities and whitespace, Google’s got 5 minutes:
GMAIL DOWN OH NOES
The great Gmail outage of 2008 is now and productivity has come to a screeching halt across much of the world. I thought I might be at least able to access my LAist e-mail but that crapped out on me as well. Fortunately, most of my e-mail arrives at andy[at]netzoo … although Gmail is my preferred e-mail client/app for sorting/searching, etc.
What the hell do we do now, Google?
Google’s html interface (access it via this link: https://mail.google.com/mail/h/ is still functioning for many as is GMAIL via IMAP / mail.app)
Google Goes Open Source & CC for Radiohead’s ‘House of Cards’
Google is hosting open source and Creative Commons-licensed code for everyone to remix Radiohead’s latest video from In Rainbows, “House of Cards.”
“In Radiohead’s new video for ‘House of Cards,’ no cameras or lights were used. Instead, 3D plotting technologies collected information about the shapes and relative distances of objects,” according to the band’s YouTube channel.
After hearing about Radiohead’s first-of-its kind video, Google:
[A]greed with the band that it would be great to give you a deeper look into how all of this was done, and even a chance to play with the data yourself, under a license that allows remixing… You can view the video, watch a short documentary about how it was made, interact with the video in 3D, download some of the data, and download an iGoogle theme and gadget – all at http://code.google.com/radiohead.
