Cubs Win; Wood Wishes to Keep Wrigley Analog

kerry wood cubsI’ve heard all the stories about Kerry Wood, party animal. Dude blew his arm out a million times, got pudgy and then became skinny as can be. He still has an arm, and although he makes me nervous as hell with his proneness to injury, he was awesome at the end of the ’07 season.

But the real reason I love Kerry Wood, is that he is a true CUB. Case in point: After shrugging off the cheesy Trevor Hoffman-esque concept of having a theme song play upon the entrance of a hard-throwing closer, Kerry came to play in the 9th, in spite of the non-organ-ized version of AC/DC’s “Dynamite.”

“I’ve never heard music played here,” he said…. Wood said he would prefer to hear Wrigley organist Gary Pressy “tickling the ivory” than music coming over the loud speakers.

Let it Be, Cubs marketing team. Now keep on winning.

This is GREAT news, the Library of Congress today announced a pilot project with Flickr to populate an account with millions of images marked “No known copyright restrictions.” From the Library’s blog:

The project is beginning somewhat modestly, but we hope to learn a lot from it. Out of some 14 million prints, photographs and other visual materials at the Library of Congress, more than 3,000 photos from two of our most popular collections are being made available on our new Flickr page, to include only images for which no copyright restrictions are known to exist.

Flickr Launches GeoTagging Feature

We knew this was imminent, as it had already been enabled by third party apps, but today Flickr went public with their official Yahoo! Maps geo-tagging mashup! What’s more, one of my fave Yahoo! props — Upcoming — will now be incorporated with Yahoo! Local and suddenly the whole world fits even more conveniently in my shirt pocket. Upcoming declares that their database has just been expanded by 3000%. woah! This is awesome news! For more tricks and tools on geotagging and mashing up your photos and more, i’d recommend OgleEarth’s links page.
