Independent: kids, porn & Guantanamo

Some of the best reporting in recent years has appeared in the Sunday pages on the mothership isle on the other side of the Atlantic.

The Independent (on Sunday) takes aim and fires away with “The children of Guantanamo.” A true story purporting to “reveal” that “60 of the detainees of the US camp were under 18 at the time of their capture, some as young as 14.”

Seems like a lead story to me, but really, in context — the cover of this “IoS” is clearly covered with porn! (Even the Nuge made the cover)!

otoh, front page images or not, Sarah Baxter has had a hand in several hq reports as the Sunday Times‘ D.C. – scribe, including today’s column “Revealed: how US marines massacred 24.”

  • What are you so surprised about. This is the world we live in: you can't promote anything unless you have some porn with. I guess that soon they will offer porn clips with your pizza delivery. You may laugh, but that could happen. Excuse me, sir, do you know our special offer for today? Buy two pizzas and you get on "special dvd" free:)))

  • Porn is very important today if you want to promote something:)) And let me tell you that politicians often use female escorts which of course are deducted from tax payers' money. Very interesting, right?

  • The numerous stories that get covered in Europe that go unnoticed here are ironically more important to our country than they are Europe.

The recent story about 200000 AK47s that went missing in Iraq was utterly unnoticed here, but made headlines overseas. I'm always disapointed with our media, but the past months have been especially frustrating.
