Seven U.S. soldiers killed in Baghdad, dozens feared dead from at least one bomb carbomb in Basra, and U.S. airstrikes killed at least 40 Iraqis, most of whom are thought to be civilians.
All this on the last day of the bloodiest month yet for U.S. troops in Iraq.
